John Richardson

Before taking up residence in Taos in 2000, John spent two decades as a troubleshooter for the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF). He did global, regional and country management reviews for the organization and implementing partners in a variety of contexts in over 30 countries around the world. His work changed the way the organization understood its humanitarian relief operations in the most complex wars and natural disasters. As part of his work he conducted community needs assessments, developed organizational strategy, and assumed group facilitation and mediation roles.

John now works with businesses and organizations to help management and employees establish and maintain a common purpose, identify tangible steps toward company goals, and develop clearer, more open relations among employees. He uses his extensive background in conducting in-depth interviews, working with small groups and his skills in conflict mediation. John co-founded the Taos Co-Mediation Partnership in 2002. He has conducted private arbitration and mediation for individuals and businesses, and pro bono mediations in the Taos County Magistrate Court. He has most recently had a consulting relationship with Dimond Mortgage.

His journalistic work has appeared in the New York Times, International Herald Tribune, Travel and Leisure Magazine and on ABC World News Tonight. During the 2004 fall semester he taught a course in international politics at the University of New Mexico in Taos.

A Testimonial on John’s work.

“John’s skills and ease encouraged dialogue and openness and there was a general sense that issues that were previously unspoken were shared and addressed. Strategies and adjustments were developed and implemented quickly and in a manner that encouraged the whole staff. I’m convinced that having engaged John Richardson in this manner at such an early stage of our business’s existence was an invaluable means of setting the tone and temperament for the business for years to come. John and I have agreed that we will continue with such mediated meetings once or twice a year to sustain and improve upon the positive results we experienced.”Ted Dimond, Owner of Dimond Mortgage
